Sudden Accelerations and Minor Deviations (2006 - 2012)

This series of work started when I moved to Los Angeles and developed a fascination with visualising the writings of J.G Ballard, which followed me through my time at Chelsea College of Art between 2008 and 2010. At the time, I used techniques that implied the removal of the artist’s hand, including digital image-making and printmaking. I countered these de-personalized processes of automated assembly with images of facile bodies and explosive accidents. I used images that treat the body as a commodity, accentuating enhancements of the body. While, I used the automobile to reflect issues of mobility, which gives us a seemingly coherent portrayal of control over scattered and fragmented moments of our daily routines. I used collage to reveal a dialogue through overlaid images, which resulted in multi-layered, mass-produced iconography, highlighted in a sterile, linear fashion. Over the years, I’ve added to this collection of works.
